Volleyball
The Boys Volleyball team hosted Tucker Road Primary School in the
final of the South Central Zone Championships. On a warm day our
students applied all of their skills and team-work in romping to a
convincing three sets to nil victory. Both players and the lucky
parents who were on hand to watch must have been pleased with some
of the great rallies and hard-fought points. Mr. Lockwood would also
like to congratulate the students who have achieved this difficult
feat in consecutive years. In fact, the students at SEPS have now
won 4 District flags, 3 Zone Championships and reached 3 Regional
finals in the last 5 years. So far this year the team has put in
over 15 hours of extra practice after school, perhaps practice does
make perfect! We wish the team the very best of luck in their next
final at Westall Primary.

Swimming
The Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 children have been
swimming at Mentone Grammar Pool. We have all been having a
wonderful time learning about different water safety skills and
perfecting our swimming strokes. We would like to say a big thank
you to all the parents who have come to help and support us over the
week. Your time and dedication are greatly appreciated.
When we arrive at the pool we get into our groups and we sit on
the edge of the pool waiting for our swimming teachers. Will the
water be warm or cold today we wonder? Some of us are given kick
boards and we are swimming down the pool. It is fun to dive down to
get the brick from the bottom of the pool. We all like doing dives
at the end of our lesson. Our swimming teachers are really nice to
us. It is time to get out of the pool, dressed and on the bus for
our journey back to school. I like our swimming lessons - they are
awesome! From Maddy and Aren

Boys Volleyball Team Triumph
What a performance! The ball volleyball team hit their stride at
the right moment winning all of their games. Such performance saw
the boys take out the pennant in their section. This success was due
to the dedication of the boys, who on a weekly basis practice their
volley skills under coach, Mr. Lockwood.
Well done to all who took part in the volleyball competition and
other SEPS teams which were close to being the champions.

Volleyball Success at SEPS
The Volleyball team at SEPS finished with a first and second in the
District Summer Sport competition for term one. The Boys enjoyed a
great run of 7 games without a loss, and did not drop a single set
on their way to back-to-back flags. A great effort by the boys and
good luck to them as they progress into the South Central Zone
finals.
The girls also finished on a high with a run of six straight wins
after a narrow defeat in their first game. Our grade 5 girls have
been expertly coached by their grade six buddies at Volleyball Club
this year and the results have been very pleasing, especially with
their serving. What a great finish to the season girls!
With 13 wins from 14 games, the children’s success is down to their
positive attitude to training. They have shown up each Thursday in
great numbers and their persistence has really paid off. |

Olympic Games - Sandy College
Grade 5’s went to Sandy
College for Olympics Day. We were split into countries and we
had Year 7 leaders in each country. We went around the rooms and
saw some presentations by the Year 7 students. Some countries
had some different kinds of food to taste. They were
delicious!!! We also played some games like water bomb, shot-put
and Frisbee discus, etc. Sandringham Primary came too. After we
have competed in all the games provided we went into the school
hall and the principal announced the first second and third
winning teams. In third place was Portugal and in second place
was Italy. In first place was France (they beat Italy by 1
point) which was my team. Well we had an
amazing time and thank you to the Year 7s for their great effort

A Marathon Effort
Grade 3S were very proud of their teacher at assembly
when Mr. Aaron Steel was congratulated for competing in the Great
Ocean Road Marathon. The course was 45 kilometers stretching from
Lorne to Apollo Bay. Mr. Steel completed the run in 3 hours and 12
minutes being placed 14th overall.
What a fantastic effort! Well done Mr. Steel. His message to our
up and coming runners at SEPS is “It is amazing what you can achieve
when you put your mind to it “. |

Health and Physical Education provides students
with knowledge, skills and behaviors that allow them to develop
and maintain their physical, mental, social and emotional health.
Students' involvement in physical activity can take many forms,
ranging from individual, non-competitive activity through to
competitive team games. Emphasis is placed on combining motor
skills and tactical knowledge to improve individual and team
performance. Engaging in physical activity, games, sport and
outdoor recreation contributes to a sense of community and social
connectedness. These are vital components of improved wellbeing. |

Learning to get over life’s hurdles can be fun!
What a great take off ! |
|
High jump is a simple case of a good approach
and take off... |
 |
 |
A good position in mid- air, keeping the back
and the legs clear of the pole... |
|
And a nice soft landing at the end of it ! |
 |
 |
The shot put requires a steady base and a good
starting position. |
|
A firm follow through and the shot
put will surely go into orbit. |
